BERLIN NIGHTS/PARIS DAYS with UTE LEMPER
Crossing national and stylistic boundaries alike, the VOGLER QUARTET, UTE LEMPER, and pianist/clarinetist STEFAN MALZEW embark on an exciting journey bringing together Weimar chansons and the classical works they influenced. From Weill to Piazzolla, from Schulhoff to Piaf, these exciting artists present an extraordinary portrait of the cultural melting pot of 1920’s Europe and beyond.
Program featuring quartets by Schulhoff and songs by Weill, Eisler, Piaf, Brel, and Piazzolla.
In his New York Times Review, Anthony Tommasini calls Berlin Nights/Paris Days an “evening’s worth of intensely expressive singing and riveting drama” helped by Mr. Malzew’s “subtle, textured and brilliant arrangements.”
The CD, Berlin Nights/Paris Days, released on Steinway's label in March 2012, has garnered a Grammy nomination. The recording preceded a North American tour with presenters such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, San Francisco Performances, Toronto's Royal Conservatory, Vancouver's Chan Center, La Jolla Music Society and more....Limited dates are left in the 13/14 North American tour for Berlin Nights (in collaboration with Ted Kurland Associates) as well as the Vogler in recital, during the same period - March/early April 2014.
